Sometimes I have the urge to make something beautiful and only for the reason of making something beautiful. Like too much sugar or salt I have my limit, and I choose a digestif, something to clear the palette. I make un-paintings by counting the gestural paint strokes it takes to make an attractive non-objective gestural painting. I then retreat with the same amount of gestures but with gesso as the paint, essentially eliminating the painting the same way it was made.
